Dear Daughters, Malala Yousafzai is released from hospital!

Dear Daughters,

Malala Yousafzai, who is now 15, was released from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England after spending the last 3 months there recovering from a gunshot to the head. Malala was only 14 years old when the Taliban shot her just above the left eye on her way home from school on October 9, 2012. According to a BBC article entitled Malala Yousafzai leaves Queen Elizabeth Hospital  the young human rights activist is scheduled to undergo cranial reconstruction surgery in late January or early February. The Taliban bullet entered her left eye, grazed her brain and travelled down her jaw. It was removed by surgeons in Pakistan before she was transferred to the hospital in England. Her family has temporarily relocated to England and the brave teenager will continue receiving treatment as an outpatient of the hospital, allowing her to be with her parents and two younger brothers as she recovers.

On December 8, the president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, visited Malala in hospital and assured her family that the government would cover their medical expenses.

On January 2, 2013 the Pakistan government announced that Malala’s father will work as the education attache at the Consulate of Pakistan in Birmingham, England for at least the next three years.
