From me to you, highlighting challenges faced by girls

Dear Daughters, I’ll Take the “Pwincess”

Dear Daughters,

Just a few days ago at one of our favourite local family restaurants, I witnessed three young siblings functioning exactly how I hope society will function someday.

The eldest boy was probably 9 or 10, the middle child, a girl, was about 7 or 8 and the youngest, a boy, was probably 4. Together they were sifting through the restaurant-provided colouring pages. Although the two older siblings selected their pictures quickly, they patiently continued to sift through the pictures for their little brother so he could make his choice. Without any prompting by his older siblings as to what to choose or not to choose, the young boy stopped his sister’s page flipping when he eyed a picture of Sleeping Beauty.

“Pwincess,” he told her, pointing to the picture of Sleeping Beauty in a beautiful ball gown.

“You want the princess,” she asked matter-of-factly to confirm his selection.

Her younger brother nodded and held out his hand into which his sister placed the coluring page.

And then the little boy, dressed in a Lightning McQueen red t-shirt and matching red Lightning McQueen ball cap walked to his family’s table to colour his “pwincess”. And he and his family lived happily ever after.
